PM Calls for Clear Path for Success for Top Students

PHNOM PENH: In the meeting with A-level students on the morning of January 9, Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to continue to seek and widely disseminate study abroad scholarships for Cambodian students.

In November, 1,691 students out of 98,460 scored an A on their high school exams, totaling about 2%. Students who pass the exam are eligible for bachelor’s programs. The government is developing ways to fast-track the highest scorers so that they can find careers that best suit their skills.

The PM thanked the universities and ministries for providing scholarships to qualified students which contributes to the development of education in Cambodia.

He urged the Ministry of Education to provide counseling services to students for guidance in the selection of specialized subjects in high schools and higher education. He said that the Ministry must develop a path for students who perform well on their exams to receive training in priority skills such as science, technology, engineering and more.

He also urged the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to ensure that all educational institutions have internet access, especially in rural areas, so that students can study independently and download learning materials.
